Honey Bees and Nurses

I have enjoyed nursing for many years. It has been the only career that I have ever known. Lately I have added bee keeping to my list of hobbies and was amazed with all they had to teach me. After studying the bees and exploring their hives, I started to correlate their habits and behaviors to those of nursing. Both honey bees and nurses are critical to the survival of our society as we know it, but not one bee can survive alone and not one nurse can survive alone. In a hive it takes every bee doing its job for the survival of the hive. No one bee is more important than the other and that includes the “Queen Bee”! As I continue to study the honey bees, I would like to share their instinct behaviors and to how we as nurses can learn from the little but very important honey bee.

I would love to hear from you!

I would love to hear what you have to say about comparing nursing to honey bees.  As I continue to study how the honey bees make a hive strong, and apply it to how we as nurses respond to our environment.  Can we learn how to improve our profession and make it a highly functional and welcoming place?  Do we create a sweet or a sticky environment?
